Lever hoists are used for tensioning, pulling, loading or lifting loads.
The design of the lever hoist is similar to the design of the chain hoist. Instead of using a chain to manipulate the load, a hand lever is used. Continuous movement of the handwheel by the operator moves the load in small steps. Speed is not a characteristic of cricket.
- Material of frame and lever construction – aluminum, iron or cast iron.
- Brake type – friction brake or ‘’ratchet and pawl’’ type. The friction brake is used when there are requirements for precision handling. The “ratchet and pawl” type is usually cheaper and is used where there are no requirements for accurate handling.
- Lifting means – short chain, chain of bicycle rollers, rope or belt (polyester).
- Lever hoists are the most used, because the chain is flexible in all directions and is easy to control for wear. The short chain exists in a variety of grades and strengths (galvanized, electro-galvanized, black, stainless, etc.). The short chain can be easily changed in case of wear.
- The chain of bicycle cylinders is more expensive than the short chain, more difficult to control for wear and can not accept lateral pull (lateral tension – no pull in straight hook-hook line).
- Wire rope lever hoists are cheaper than chain hoists, but are limited in lifting capacity. They are more vulnerable to wear and difficult to control
- The crimped belts are used in the food industry or where conduction plays an important role
- Lever handle length – The length of the lever handle must be taken into account when working in a confined space.
- Handle force – the force to be applied to the user by the operator.

- An additional feature that is offered is the incorporation into the lever hoist (for short-chain type) overload protection. Overload protection warns the operator and prevents excessive force on the hand lever and the chain. It greatly reduces the stress of the operator and the lever hoist and dramatically increases the life of the lever hoist.

The Trolleys and beam clamps are materials on which the winches are hung. Beam clamps are fixed lifting points.
